Certificate in HR Practice (CHRP)

CHRP Course: The UK's most popular HR qualification

The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) have introduced a new course structure which replaces the current certificate level courses. The popular Certificate in Personnel Practice (CPP) will be replaced by the new Certificate in HR Practice (CHRP) - Level 3* course in early 2010. The change will be phased in over the next 12 months and Workplace Law will be one of the first training providers in the UK to offer this new course to students.

As a centre of excellence for CIPD courses, Workplace Law will be putting all of the passion and experience developed running the certificate level courses into the new format.

Why have the courses changed?

The new structure is intended to be more easily accessible to students and will represent the core competencies needed to operate at a particular level in HR practice.

Students will be able to gain credits for completed modules and the total number achieved will equate to either an Award or a Certificate or a Diploma.

The Certificate in HR Practice (CHRP) provides a firm foundation in all the areas of personnel and is a natural study route towards undertaking the CIPD's Professional Development Scheme (PDS). It will help you develop practical, relevant skills and above all, will give you the confidence to be more effective at work.

About the Certificate in HR Practice course

This unique Workplace Law course combines the speed and flexibility of elearning with the quality tutor contact time of traditional classroom learning.

Workplace Law's fast-track Certificate in HR Practice (CHRP) courses take between 15 and 20 weeks to complete. A combination of e-learning and intensive classroom study in Cambridge or London leaves you free to study when you want, but with plenty of opportunity to interact with our expert tutors and fellow students during our core residential sessions. What's more, the flexible course programme cuts the cost of travelling and saves your company money by reducing the time you spend away from the workplace.

The course will help you to:

  • gain a broad grasp of employment law so you can set your own organisation's policies and procedures in context;
  • understand how to implement best practice in recruitment and selection;
  • assess how well-planned performance review processes can boost team performance;
  • develop face-to-face interviewing techniques; and
  • identify, plan and evaluate training intervention.

Certificate in HR Practice courses are foundation level standard, at an equivalent level to NVQ/SVQ Level 3, and require a completed total of 26 credits.

Who is the CHRP course for?

  • those new to HR/personnel
  • people interested in a move into HR/personnel
  • line managers who are involved in HR/personnel activities
  • HR staff who do not have sufficient qualifications to undertake the full PDS

How is it assessed?

CHRP courses are assessment-based qualifications and the methods of assessment will include skills assignments, written assignments, on line case studies and quizzes.

The CHRP course is split 50:50 between class based study and web-based elearning. Students can start on whichever module is the most convenient to them and will have access to tutors throughout their study on this course.

Pre-requisites

You don't need any previous experience to take CHRP courses, however, some personnel experience would be beneficial. You will also need an email address and access to the internet. You will be required to take part in a telephone interview prior to release of your study materials.
