What is the CERLAP course?

The Certificate in Employment Relations, Law and Practice (CERLAP) is designed to give students a comprehensive introduction into the legal framework that underpins effective HR policies around employment relations.

This unique Workplace Law course combines the speed and flexibility of elearning with the quality tutor contact time of traditional classroom learning. It is ideal for busy professionals who need an underpinning knowledge of employment relations law but are not able to commit the time to academic study such as an MA.

The Workplace Law fast-track CERLAP course takes only 22 weeks to complete. A combination of elearning and intensive classroom study in Cambridge or London leaves you free to study when you want, but with plenty of opportunity to interact with our expert tutors and fellow students during two residential sessions. What's more, the flexible course programme cuts the cost of traveling and saves your company money by reducing the time you spend away from the workplace.

The CIPD Certificate in Employment Relations, Law and Practice provides a firm foundation in all the areas of HR and employment law and qualifies as a pre-course study route towards undertaking the CIPD's new Advanced Level qualifications. It will equip you with a comprehensive understanding of the law and above all, will give you the confidence to be more effective at work.

The course will help you to:

  • develop the skills needed in employment practice;
  • understand how employment practice works within a personnel department;
  • develop an awareness of the context of employment practice;
  • get-to-grips with the key issues that impact on employment practice; and
  • build a platform for future studies in employment law or personnel management.

The CERLAP course is a foundation level standard, at an equivalent level to NVQ/SVQ Level 3.

Who is the CERLAP course for?

  • those new to HR/personnel
  • people interested in a move into HR/personnel
  • line managers who are involved in HR/personnel activities
  • HR staff who do not have sufficient qualifications to undertake the full PDS

How is it assessed?

CERLAP courses are assessment-based qualifications that incorporate:

  • two written assessments;
  • two skills assessments;
  • and, one work based project.

The CERLAP course is split between class based study (55 hours) and web-based elearning (65 hours). Students will have access to tutors throughout their study on this course.

Pre-requisites

You don't need any previous experience to take this course, however, some personnel experience would be beneficial. You will also need an email address and access to the internet. You will be required to take part in a telephone interview prior to release of your study materials.
